CLIC SARGENT

Fighting for young lives against cancer

When cancer strikes young lives, CLIC Sargent limits the damage it causes beyond their health. Today, 11 children and young people in the UK will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people and their families. We fight tirelessly for children and young people with cancer, often when they feel they can’t. We do this individually, locally and nationally, so that they can focus on the important things.

CAI’S STORY

Cai was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was eight years old.

“Cai started chemotherapy and it was really difficult. Then Jane, our CLIC Sargent Specialist Nurse, came along and things finally started getting better. She developed a relationship of trust with Cai, discussing his treatment choices. She came to the house, saving us a 50-mile trip. She was patient and helped Cai discussing his treatment choices. Before Jane, we didn’t feel like the different hospital teams were talking to each other and working together. We didn’t know who to talk to or to take questions to. I had the sense Jane was talking to the doctors, explaining what we needed personally. That makes a real difference. I still go to Jane when I have questions or want to talk about anything. It is great to have that personal connection.”
